This is a short animation to see how the network of characters grows over episodes. Node size is based on degree, and color is based on authority score (see #HITS page to know more).
Characters appear as groups of connected nodes and they join the graph creating links mostly with Rick and Morty.
We notice that important characters are introduced throughout the seasons. This is how a show keeps being attractive and interesting over time.
This second animation shows the subgraph of involved characters throughout episodes.
Rick and Morty, and mainly the Smith family, are very often involved.
We notice bigger networks during the Seasons 2 and 3, where we find episodes like "Total Rickall" (S02E04) with all Parasites characters, or "Tales From the Citadel" (S03E07) with a lot of Ricks and Mortys.
The episode with the most positive entiments appears to be 'M. Night Shaym-Aliens' with percentage almost 70%!
And... actually, I've just watched the episode again to better understand this result, and it's quite relevant! Indeed, this episode mainly focus on Rick, Jerry and Morty trapped in the simulation, of a simulation, of a simulation, of a... Wait, how many?
Anyway many characters are generated to be happy, and we have a huge amount of "YES" repeated all the time by generated humans, whhen they interact mostly with Jerry. Moreover the aliens who created this simulation show satisfaction, since their plan is going well.
Finally we can study it more in details, splitting positive and negative emotions into specific feelings.
[Note] The episode 'Wedding Squanchers' appears to have strangely low percentages of sentiments. Although this episode certainly is not one of the happiest, we realised that the reason for this is the lack of dialogues. Only a few amount of data could be found for this one, so the results unfortunatly are not accurate...
We also decided to investigate the clearly increased percentage of fear for the episode 'The Rickshank Rickdemption'. This is very well justified by the plot. In this episode, Rick C-137 infiltrates the Council chamber and kills most of the Council of Ricks before ending up in a standoff with the final member, attempting to use Summer as a hostage. Also, at the end of the episode, by eliminating Jerry, Rick now takes on the role as the undisputed patriarch of the family, and Morty will be forced to continue on adventures with him as both Beth and Summer view Rick as a hero. Rick explains that all he wants out of all his plans is to get Szechuan Chicken McNugget Sauce, which was discontinued by McDonalds years ago. Understandably, Morty is visibly horrified by the revelation.
RICK
MORTY
Something interesting that came up from here is the opposite emotions of Rick and Morty in the episode 'Auto Erotic Assimilation'. Since Morty and Smith spend almost all of their adventures togtether, we were teased to search and remember what could happen there and made Rick so happy, but Rick so miserable. Well, in this episode, Rick, Morty and Summer come across an alienship's surviving crew members, who explain their planet has been taken over by an assimilating hive-mind, before the aforementioned hive mind attacks and assimilates the rest of the crew. They stumble on the hive mind named Unity, that surprisingly Rick used to date as he awkwardly admits. Unity and Rick waste no time rekindling their relationship rather extravagantly. They are having parties and sex. Meanwhile, Morty and Summer are involved in an anxious situation and try to get Rick to go home with them, but Rick dismisses them, sending them home via portal before continuing to party with Unity.
